The rescue aircrew was conducting training in Jacksonville, Fla., when they were diverted. The rescue boat crew covered the 26 miles of water in less than two hours and arrived to Down Easter 2's position first.

Kudos to the rescue crew!

Does anyone know if the diver was on O2 for the 2 hours before he was evac'd?

i doubt it.... i woudlnt' think a fishing vessel would carry O2

He had severe type 2 DCS, and yes there were pre-disposing factors as well as a history and an at risk profile.

The HBO treatment was not precautionary. What saved his life was the CG placing him on High Flow O2 enroute to us.

DCS is a nasty thing, keep it in the back of your head on every dive. When you stop worrying about it is when you are most vulnerable to it.

Diver denial and the delay of O2 1st Aid on scene is your worst enemy.

Just my 2 cents!

Dive Safe!

Since we had two threads of the same incident, I have merged the two into one post. This is to avoid confusion.
