So the question is: Are all or some of the scenes the same, or different?

I just found a review of Deep Blue that states it's a "montage of some of the most startling and amazing footage taken from the BAFTA-winning BBC series Blue Planet."

Apparently they just redid the commentary making it more minimalistic for the big screen, and there are no detailed descriptions of what you're seeing.

Sorry for the confusion, that's what I get for going by the official website's info. Of course they don't want people knowing that it's subtitle is "Blue Planet's greatest hits".

Saw it today and thought it was good. I'm an easy audience for water stuff with great photography though. It draws you in quickly with great music, very good narration and fantastic camera work. I loved some of the shots. I leaned over to my non-diver wife and said, this is really good, huh? She said, um, yeah, but I think this is like the stuff we watch on PBS. Hmmm, I thought, it does a bit. But, hey, it's the big screen and it's about water.

Did not see Blue Planet so I can't tell if it's a rehash, but I would guess some of it is similar. It has to be better on a big screen because of some of the camera work, which I think you would miss on a small screen. It has more scope on a larger screen. I kept thinking, this would be mind blowing in Imax.

It's a great way to spend and afternoon when you're not diving. I liked it. My wife thought it was just OK.

I think its worth seeing in the big screen for the reason stated. From what I saw on tv the quote below definitely applies.

some of the most startling and amazing footage

3D Imax would be as good as it gets without getting wet. Oh well. Thank you all for the info. I will be seeing it if I get the chance.

I saw Deep Blue today.

(SPOILER ALERT, don't read further if you still wish to see the film)

Personally, I think I'd rather see Blue Planet on the big screen than Deep Blue. David Attenburoughs naration completes a beautiful trio of fantastic cinematography, a moving musical score, and his characteristic voice. The cinematography was still beautiful and the score moving (it's the same) but the naration is lacking. I actually felt that the small bits of stories left me wondering more about the lives of the animals. I could and do watch Blue Planet repeatedly. I wouldn't pay to watch Deep Blue again.

How could an underwater movie receive a "G" rating with all that munching (violence) and mating (raw sex)? Mine are all "PG" or... better/worse!

I'll look forward to seeing this one though.

Doesn't seem like it'll be playing up here... Sad... The preview looked really nice... And I'm sure this is the type of film to be seen on a big screen...

No kidding.....we always get left out of the good stuff.

I guess they just don't like us up here :1poke:

I saw Deep Blue a few months ago ( the last thing to premiere here before the US was LOTR). I did enjoy it a lot, but mainly because I had only seen a couple episodes of Blue Planet. Deep Blue is missing a lot of the commentary I found very interesting in Blue Planet. I'd recommend it, especially if you haven't seen Blue planet series.

dude that movie came out like six years ago. just google a review.

I thought we were talking about that Jessica Alba flick...Blue Something?
