A little fact checking is needed by the author.

Still hate things that glorify deep diving and world records. Didn't turn out too well with a recent attempt at an open water deep diving world record.

It seemed to me that he was not advocating trying to reach the bottom himself. But to use a weighted line as there was too much risk in trying to do a 1200 ft dive.
