Hi,

I'm reading the PADI literature and it states that "some countries, including several in Europe, require a special dedicated enriched air nitrox valve on EAN cylinders (M26x2)."

I have an Oceanic EOS FDX10 first stage which is of course a DIN 300 fitting, should I be concerned about this being appropriate for EAN cylinders in Europe?

I'll probably visit my LDS and bring my regulators; I need a new regulator bag anyway, and I suspect that M26x2 may simply be the more correct/technical term for "DIN 300," but any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

I may have answered this myself, but I'd still like someone to confirm. After even more searching (already tried Google) on this forum, I found this post which seems to indicate that M26x2 is the thread on the cylinder neck (i.e. where the cylinder valve screws into.)

Therefore that valve should still have the standard DIN 300 fitting, and my EAN compatible regulators will connect just fine.

M26x2 is only something you need to be concerned about should you be servicing cylinders (which I am not) so the PADI manual is quite misleading here. Unless I'm very mistaken in my interpretation of what they have written.

I'm also quite sure the poster is joking about the EU filling procedure. :rofl3:

That is correct, M26/2 is the cylinder neck thread. However the diameter of the DIN fitting is also larger, so a standard DIN reg will not fit. This is the madness of the EU, you will require a dedicated nitrox reg.

Oh, this is unfortunate. I assumed that "DIN 300" was a universal standard... I notice that PADI states that "some countries, including several in Europe ..."

Hopefully Finland, Norway, and Sweden are not among these... However I'm pessimistic and thinking that they will unfortunately be among those countries requiring dedicated Nitrox 1st's. :(

Oh well, I'll visit my local dive shop today (already past midnight here!), bring my regs, and ask what the situation is around the Nordic area.

My European tanks seem to have M25x2 neck threads.

At least that's what the necks and disc less valves say.

M25 or M26? Not sure whether this was a typo? If this is the case, and my local dive store uses M25 threaded tanks, then standard DIN300 would work, correct?

Otherwise, I will have to buy an EN144-3 DIN300 set of regulators and sell my current set. :(

I thought it was 25 too.....
There was once talk about an "external" DIN thread (Drager).....maybe 26????

Well, I'm totally confused so I think I'll visit my LDS in the morning with my regulators and ask them to try connecting to a DIN 300 cylinder.

They shouldn't mind, considering the dive center manager is very helpful and I've already booked a few courses and dives with them. On top of that, I'm considering buying my own cylinders; they only rent 232 bar cylinders, but have 300 bar cylinders for sale and can fill to 300 bar if you have your own. At least this is my understanding...

I visited my local dive center about an hour ago, they are really helpful. My regs fit the nitrox cylinders they are using for rental and purchase, so I'm very happy -- don't need to buy a new set of regs. :)

I think PADI need to clarify further in their nitrox manual about M25x2/M26x2 to avoid this kind of confusion. Sure, if it's something I should know for using my cylinder, yes, include it. However, it probably belongs more in the equipment specialist or service technician manual. IMHO.

In summary, everything is fine. :)

I'm a bit late but here is a pretty good link concerning various DIN threads.
