Is this factually true or just an opinion? I never thought of this before.
The configuration with the spin on adapter has the failure points of the yoke and the DIN connections. That's why it is more trouble prone than either a yoke reg or a DIN reg directly connected to a tank. It does work, but it's not something you would choose to use all (or most) of the time. For that you should match the regulator to the valve. Simple.
