I have been considering the dive alert system since they are on sale at my lds, but can not part with my i3 bcd. Is there want way to use the dive alert on an i3 equipped bcd? Would it be possible to connect a lp hose to a reg and use the dive alert separately? I would assume that air would leak out of the back.

You can run an extra hose just for the dive alert. It will not leak out
FYI - DiveAlert just announced a major recall. Make sure you're not looking at a recalled model.
