Was watching the news this afternoon and saw a diver died today at the yukon dive site. Not much info is being released right now but the man was 39 years old. Appearantley the dive boat called for his name at roll and was not on board, captain contacted lifeguards who later found the man unconscious on the sea floor at 100 feet, they performed CPR but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Prayers out to his family, what tragic day to die on too. :(

SAN DIEGO - A scuba diver found dead near a sunken naval vessel off Mission Beach was a 48-year-old City Heights man, the medical examiner reported Sunday.

Robert Michael Clampitt didn't return from a dive to the Yukon -- a former Canadian naval vessel sunk off Mission Beach to create what is now a popular diving reef -- and was reported missing around 3:20 p.m. Saturday.

His body was later found by San Diego lifeguard divers on the ocean floor, about 100 feet below the surface, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office. According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office, Clampitt was pronounced dead despite efforts to save his life by the lifeguards and paramedics.

My prayers and condolences to the family and friends of Robert Clampitt.

Robert was a Veteran. God Bless him and his family.

MISSION BEACH — Police have released the name of a diver who drowned Saturday two miles from the Mission Beach shore.

Robert Michael Clampitt, 48, was found about 100 feet from the beach, facedown in the water after he and 13 other divers plunged into surf near the Yukon wreckage, a popular diving site. Though he boarded the Waterhouse Charter with other divers, Clampitt did not have a partner during the diving excursion, authorities said.

Lifeguards tried to resuscitate him, but Clampitt died on the beach.

Clampitt was described only as a military retiree who lived in City Heights.
