An accident on the high seas was about to end in tragedy when a fisherman who was diving two kilometers from the coast without signaling buoys and prevention, was hit by a boat returning from a day of fishing.
The accident occurred this Friday July 27, at 8:30 in the morning under the arches of the viaduct of the former fiscal dock, near the building of the Integral Port Administration (API), the fisherman identified as Gilberto Pech Valenzuela, about 35 years old, was hit by the propeller of the boat “Suemy Noemi”, type Imensa, 27 feet of length, license plate 3101170113-4.
The boat was under the command of the fisherman José del Carmen Pérez Peña, sailing from east to west, who passed under the arches and felt that the boat hit something, so he stopped the march and returned to see what it was.
To the surprise of the boatman, it was a diver to whom the propeller of the boat hit directly in one leg, so he immediately put him on the boat and transferred it to the Base of the Harbor Master’s Office of Yucalpetén.
The diver had injuries at the height of the right calf, his health is delicate. The maritime and ministerial authorities will determine legal status and responsibilities.
