deepstops:Tracy,
I'm not 100% sure but my best guess is because the hook 'n line fisher folk have powerful lobbyists that persuaded the state the put them under the "sport fish" classification.
eandiver:I'm seeing a lot of food here. Nice permit!
I like the last one of MissD's too.
MoteMan:It has nothing to do with the "hook & line lobby"
MoteMan:The state of Florida list Permit as a game fish because:
The IGFA (International Game Fish Assoc.) list it as a gamefish.
It is a very popular gamefish in the keys that attracts thousands of tourist fishermen from out of state.
They are very fast, not easy to catch and a lot of fun on a flyrod.
It has nothing to do with the "hook & line lobby", they ARE gamefish just like sailfish are gamefish and I understand they are not considered tablefare.
