Some folks dive in Lake Martin in that area... kinda a little north of there. The quality of diving might not be justified with the drive required.

Most of the Alabama crowd either dives in the quarries located in B'ham, Madison, or near Gasden, or they head to the Florida springs or the Gulf (Florida or Alabama).

BTW... you might get more responses moving the thread to "Deep Dixie Divers"

Lake Martin is supposedly getting excellent visibility recently, like 15-20'! :) Thats what we're getting off the beach in Gulf Shores too, which is good for us.

For Lake Martin, I would suggest hooking up with a local who dives there. since there aren't really any dive spots that are easily designated (by signs, directions, etc). I think you'd get more out of it.

Do a search on Kowaliga or Chimney Rock and you'll find more info on SB about Lake martin. (or also do a search on Lake Martin).

check out this report from earlier in the week

or PM Tom Smedley. he dives there some.

BTW... here' is the general location of Lake Martin on google maps

Also don't confuse it with Lake Logan Martin which is also in Alabama.

Sandshaker - We'd love to have you come up and do the big mudhole with us anytime you like. However, if you're going to Andalusia the closest place for you to do some diving is most likely Destin since it's only about 45 minutes down the road. Lake Martin would take you 2 to 2 and a half hours from there.

There are several great operations in Destin but since you would have to go through Crestview to get there Sea Yoda or the Bugman would be the best resources for some beach diving.

Are you just visiting Loosia or are you moving there...

No... Just visiting.

I have some friends I am going to meet half way. I don’t think I could move away from here. I have lived here, Panama City and Pensacola, my whole life. I am not one for traveling. Two hours seems like a long drive, unless it is really a great dive?

Thanks for the invite!!!! :)

I don't know how great a dive it is up at the old bridge but I like it. Really relaxing and since I am an artifact collector the old bottles intrigue me. I am not really a good judge on telling folks what is a good dive and what is not. My philospohy is that dives are like wine, beer, steak, women, and cheese. All are good some are just better than others. The best thing to be derived from diving with us at the lake or anywhere else is the socialisation with the finest folks that God created. We call ourselves the Hodaggs. If you are ever up this way come see us. We come to PC quite often.
