Diving near Melbourne in July?

Hi guys,
I was hoping I could get some diving suggestions from you?

I'll be doing a Mikeball tour in cairns, then afterward I'll fly to Melbourne for the penguins and maybe some more diving on July 3rd and 4th. I was interested in chinamans hut but I'm open to other experiences in the area. I'm open water diver certified, and I could consider getting the rec diver cert before going. Can anyone suggest where I can get the best bang for my buck?

Basically a "taxi" to all the site around Melbourne, they have 3 boats doing multiple trips every day leaving from Portsea.
