Diving salt water vs fresh water?

Most of the time the shore is a lot further away in salt water. If you get away from the boat you can be in a lot of trouble. You should have a safety sausage with you so the boat can see you if you come up away from the boat.

I agree but you need an SMB in freshwater as well. I dive in Lake Michigan and its 80 miles across and hundreds of miles long. It may not be as big as the Ocean but getting seperated would be just as big of a problem.

In my post I did say most of the time. All the fresh water diving I do is in small lakes or quarries.

PS. I would love to dive in Lake Michigan some time.
