Eat only well cooked and served hot foods in restaurants. I avoid salads and uncooked foods, unless you have it with you and wash it with a known clean source of water. Drink only bottled water. but this bird flu....do they have innoculations for it?
I've been to Bali 2 times, Java 2 times, South Sulawesi, Sarawak, Sabah, Brunei, Thailand, Burma, India and lived in the Philippines for a long time and never had any serious diseases following those guidelines (and many times not so strictly). I've had only one tetanus shot when I stepped on a fishbone (97) and one Hepa A shot in 1986.
