Dr. Deco would you care to post a pre-hospital DCS care Algorithm for EMS (or otherwise) providers? So far this is mine:

Oxygen NRB @ 15Lpm
Assess symptoms/field neuro exam
IV Bolus NS 1L then 1L @ 10cc/min

Any comments and/or further suggestions?

MM,

I don't know if the Doc will be willing to post his algorithm, but as a DMT I would have to say that there is little or nothing to argue with in your post.

(1) As we know, oxygen is almost the "magic bullet" in DCS care. The question is never "if", but "how soon" can we get it to the patient.

(2) If we can get a good field neuro done, it will obviously help the providers at the hyperbaric facility.

(3) Since someone like yourself has the training, and available equipment, IV hydration (along with the O2) will make an immense difference.

I would have to say that what you propose is very sound practice!

I actually do not have a DCS Care algorithm.

Oxygen and hydration are very good until one can be recopmressed.
