Cozumel Bids a Sad Good Bye to an Amazing Doctor: Fernando Senties Nieto - Cozumel 4 You | Cozumel 4 You

[h=1]Cozumel Bids a Sad Good Bye to an Amazing Doctor: Fernando Senties Nieto[/h]On 29 Nov, 2013 By LauraWith 1 Comment

The Cozumel community lost a great treasure last week, when Dr. Fernando Senties Nieto, a General Practitioner with a specialty in Psychology and a Master of Diving and Hyperbaric Oxygen Medicine, was tragically lost in a plane crash just off the coast of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Dr. Senties, or Dr. Chey, as he was known, was on a medical transport flight that was returning to Cozumel. Also on board with Dr. Chey was nurse Mariana Gonzalez Isunza and pilots Jose Hiram Galvan De Lao and Jose Buendia Moreno.
Although he was only 33, Chey was an active member of the Cozumel community, having spent the majority of his life here. He was a triathlon athlete, a newlywed, and was known for his sense of humor and kind manner. Additionally, Dr. Chey also taught biology at a local school and wrote a 4-part series entitled “The ABCDs of Dengue
Earlier this week, a mass was held to celebrate his life, followed by an open house at the Hotel Playa Azul. Services for Mariana Gonzalez Isunza also took place earlier this week.
The staff of Cozumel 4 You would like to extend our deepest sympathies for all of those affected by this tragic loss.

I personally knew this man. He gave the best medical help available on Cozumel to my wife when she was dying of terminal cancer. He went well beyond the norm to see that she got everything she needed to be as comfortable as she could be. He was a very kind and compassionate man who died while involved in getting an diver injured in Costa Rica to better care in Ft. Lauderdale. As a hyperbaric medicine specialist at Clinico San Miguel he helped many other divers in his short time on Earth. He will be deeply missed by many.
