for me it is open all the way to drop then Ill close it to about 80% and keep it there unless I am leveled off for a long period or cold and then Ill close it. but mostly it spends its time 80% closed so it is only a quick twist to open it more
or close it all the way.
 
Only twist my valve a couple half turns for the dive and then wide open for ascent.
 
Gravybird, dry suit hoses are one of the reasons I insist on a head-to-toe gear check with my buddy for EVERY dive, no matter how trivial or benign it seems. Unhooked dry suit hoses, loose LP inflator hoses, and forgotten weights are three of the common mistakes that even very experienced divers can make.
