Has anybody tried to use 2 Evolva Future Technology D02 instead of a strobe? This is obviously for a closeup macro work only and when the ambient light is not overpowering the somewhat meager output of the light.

For macro you can of course use it instead of a strobe. Difference between strobe and video light is the power and at close distances this light can be powerful enough. Strobes are about 10 to 20 times more powerful and you can use smaller aperture for greater depth of field. But remember the intensity of light decrease 4 times the distance.
