Interesting discussion on floats. We just recently added another item to our store:
A small hook for the rig. A hook can be attached to the frame of the reel to allow the float and reel to be left unattended. This really is a much better rig than a typical dive flag, plastic frame for holding line, and relatively heavy poly line that many people are more familiar with. If you are diving in currents and to any depth, being able to reel up to the float on ascent is very advantageous for safety. Also if you are diving around shipwrecks, it can be important to reel in some line and reduce the scope so that the line is not wrapped on the tall superstructure of a wreck.
You may also note that we offer a "Florida Legal" flag which meets the size requirements and has a stiffener (which is required). The little plastic ball is strictly for safety, we would not want anyone getting poked by a fiberglass rod sticking upward.
