This 4x photograph shows foraminifera, a deep-sea microscopic organism isolated from a deep-sea dredge in the Southwestern Pacific Ocean. It received an honorable mention in the 2015 Nikon Small World Photomicrophotography Competition, which recognizes excellence in photography with the optical microscope and was taken by Dr. Robert B. Simmons of Briarwillow in Atlanta, GA, using stereomicroscopy. Foraminifera: A Deep Sea Microscopic Organism
