Hello everyone!

I have been reading (lurking) here for ever. This place is an absolute wealth of information, and I owe this board and it's users more than a beer or two for all the great first hand info I have absorbed. Anyway ..... after tons of research I decided to go with the G11 in the OEM housing, also bought an Intova strobe and a tray from Optical Ocean Sales. Recently got back from my first trip to COZ and I am really happy with the pics I was able to get with this setup. Shot everything in Manual mode and played with F and A as well as strobe power and got used to it pretty quickly. Here a few shots ....hope you guys enjoy! and thanks again for all the great reading/advice ..:D

Those came out very nice! I have the exact same setup and hope to give it a try in Hawaii in a few weeks. Hope my photos come out as nicely as these did.

Thanks Lee!

I highly recommend starting with these settings that elanarchist lists in great detail in this thread (well can't post links yet) but the thread name is "Canon G11 Settings" and elanarchist's post is about the sixth down...It was a very helpful start for me, and made the learnig curve that much easier....

Good luck in Hawaii !! :D

great shots. Thanks!

Nicely done, and a very nice variety of shot types and styles... expect to see good things from you..

Thanks Puffer !

I wish I could do this everyday ..... if wasn't for that darn pesky job thing

Well I certainly used all 4 power settings at various times, but the vis was great and we were lucky with very sunny days. A lot of the distant shots (part reef with divers in distance for example) were just natural light in the 20-40ft depth range which turned out surprisingly good. Most of the medium distance fish/reef shots maybe 4-6ft away at depths between 20-65ft I used the more powerful settings (3&4) and most of the close-up/macro stuff were with power settings 1&2 and maybe 3 if I was pushing past the 65-70ft range.

I did not have the diffuser for the strobe and was a little worried that with the narrow beam I would have problems, but for the most part was very happy with outcome (especially for $120) at just needed to play around with the strobe position a little which was a relatively short learning curve :)

Here are a couple more examples ..... good luck and enjoy Coz!

I just ordered the Strobe diffuser and I hope it gets here before I leave.

Well if does not get to you in time don't worry, I got used to the positioning after a handful of shots, you'll be fine ....
