Actually there is bacteria in all three. Not to mention yeast in the first two. Bacteria can oftentimes be our friends. :)

From what I remember, even Deepswims stated that the "other" hinge lock was hidden in the sand.

A quote from pattidives:

"He was going through a Dive Con course which is a Dive Master/A.I. combo, but was not finished with it. Before he ever started the course with another shop he had spoke to one of our instructors who refused to put him through the course due to his ego. The way he talked and everything he was telling the instructor he wanted to due was a red flag and the insrtuctor wanted no part of his training.
The professional courses that I teach and have been through are not designed to boost egos. However, you should be confident in your skills and abilities since it is a professional course. Your skills should be better than his was in the video. But you are still taught to not go beyond your training. In a professional course you are taught that you are a role model. Well he broke every rule as a professional canidate. His behavior was far from role model behavior and unfortunately was only a matter of time before it caught up to him."

Where has anyone mis-represented this guy? He did a fine job mis-representing himself.

OK alohagal - I've deleted the sig so it is not a distraction. Cards on the table time, as you said. Do you have any information or are you simply stirring the pot?

Alohagal -

Do you know any different about the private lock on the grate?
No...no I don't. But I have heard about Ben's first few times of 'access' through the gate.

I want to know about the so called extra lock and if he spelled it out in his logbook. Or is this someone claiming that Ben did this, and if this information was definitively corroborated.

That he was stealing air and placed his own personal lock on the gate. This was initially reported and re-reported and became "fact" on SC that he bragged about doing so in his log book.

Care to share what you have heard about "Ben's first few times of 'access' through the gate"?

And why should it have more or less credence than other heresay on this thread?

How do you define "definitively corroborated" in this context? IIRC more than one diver claims to have seen the lock, and despite initial confusion, all Vortex keys to the "official" lock were accounted for.

The existence of the second lock was noticed by at least one other diver PRIOR to the incident, I also want to say that it was either shown or mentioned in one of deepswim's videos.

Mat's probably eating wings at a post-dive debriefing right now, so we may have to wait a bit before he checks in.

I understand Ben had his own personal escort through the cave on several occassions.
