According to

Unglück Im Heidesee: Hobbytaucher tot geborgen

last Sunday a recreational diver was recovered dead from a partially frozen lake.

According to the article he left home Saturday 3 pm. His girlfriend reported him missing by 10 pm. SAR found his car, keys and clothes at the lake but no sign of the diver. Due to bad weather conditions and darkness rescue activities were stopped at 11 pm. The body finally was recovered Sunday at 10.40 am.

The accident happened during what was apparently a solo dive. According to information from another internet community a police spokesman has stated, that he dove using recently on ebay purchased equipment.

Condolences to his family and friends.

wow that's strange to try out new equipment in a frozen lake all alone.....condolences to family, friends and acquaintances...

There are so many potential issues with what the article states. Sad for the loss of life. The article alludes to highly questionable judgement, hopefully it is incorrect.
