Hi all,
My name is Gary. I'm 65 and Retired and working my bucket list by doing my OW Cert now. Naturally I would pick cold water to learn in so that should tell you all you need to know about me. lol
I have a lot to learn so that is one reason I am here.

Kind regards

Hey Gary...... Congrats on the decision to pursue a cold water cert up here in the PAC NW! You're going to be amazed as to what the PNW has to offer.... I'm totally biased...but can say that once properly equipped and trained that you will find that we have some of the most diverse and beautiful diving on the planet. I've had the privilege of being able to have the means to dive some awesome places on the planet......but will say without question that my all time favorite dive on the planet is Duncan Rock just outside of Neah Bay. And BC has some of the most awesome diving.....and awesome people..... that I have ever experienced.

Also..... as a cold water certified diver........I personally think you will find that you will be very well prepared for most tropical / warm water diving....

Not sure where you are located.....but other than the Marker Buoy club... I highly recommend Evergreen Dive Service in Everett for both training and services. Other good options are UW Sports and Lighthouse..

Cheers!

Thanks for the warm welcomes,
I live in Elma out by the coast so I'm doing my training up in Hoodsport at YSS. I have completed my eLearning courses for Open Water and Nitrox. I will do my Closed Water on 7/8 and Open water the following weekend. From here I would like to pursue:
- Dry Suit Diver
- Full Face Mask Diver
- Emergency First Response (CPR and First Aid)
- Emergency Oxygen Provider
- Underwater Navigator
- Sidemount Diver
- Project AWARE Specialist

Most of my questions are about gear required for the Puget Sound.

YSS is a great shop, very nice people and an impressive operation. I go diving on their charter boats pretty often. Sund Rock nearby is a great dive site as well.

As for gear, read this to get a bit more info:

I would do EFR, O2 and drysuit. Then just practice for while. Once ready do rescue.

Why sidemount?

Hello and welcome from Bellingham!

The sound has a lot more to offer than people think.
