Hiding your certification level

My jets are cool, Douggie. Sorry if you're taking what I'm saying too strongly. I have been on several liveaboards myself and have never been asked to allow them to hold my card. If they did I would politely tell them no. What "incidentals" are you talking about? I understand a t-shirt or two, but isn"t that the type of thing people pay before they set foot on the dock?




I agree with the copies. They are more than welcome to make a copy of my card and hold that. In fact I do carry copies of my card for just that purpose.

Well, I got off the Aquacat this Saturday, and my incidentals for 2 people were $300 for Nitrox, $50 for 2 shirts, and $800 in crew gratuity (had we decided to buy a trip DVD or slideshow it was $50). Yes, we paid the day before we made port. It is supprisingly hard to get everyone to make their payments to the cashier, even on a 105' boat. People sometmes have a hard time "getting around to it" I think this is the reason for holding on to the c-cards (whether you agree with it or not). I have never had a problem letting them hold on to my card, because it would be hard for them to lose all the cards on a liveaboard, and I would never stiff the crew on a tip.
