Hey there Western Canada,
As you can see by my count-down I'll be visiting my brother on the west coast. Cobble Hill to be exact. We have discussed going up to Hornby Island. What can we expect regarding the conditions this time of year? I know it's a rare sighting to see a six gill, and since I'm a new diver, I don't think we'll be going down very deep. What are some good sites around the southern end of Vancouver Island?

I can't wait to get out there, we'll be diving the whole time I'm there. A good 10 days of diving. Maybe even a couple night dives. See you soon BC.

I dove Hornby a few weeks ago and the vis was pretty good below 50 feet as is typical for summer diving. Sharks are hard to find but it's fun to look. Hornby Dive charters runs out there and Rob and Amanda would take good care of you.

If your brother lives in Victoria he can probably hook you up down there. Other wise you might try a sampling of different areas. Maybe drive up to Nanaimo and dive the wrecks then go to Hornby or try a dive op out of Courtney.

Here is a link to various dive ops.

Thanks for the links deepdiverbc. I think we'll be frequenting Maple Bay. Here's some pics of the site.

Let me know how the dives were at Maple Bay. I know someone with a boat there but have never dove it.

Earlier this year I talked to some divers from the Duncan dive club who said they dive off one of the docks there and it's pretty good.
