Rick Murchison:
Well, lessee... as I remember the approximate costs
Voit fins & mask & snorkel - $30
Used Conshelf regulator - $35
Used Steel '72 with backpak/harness - $35
Great big knife - $12
Monster speargun - $88
about a hundred air fills - $150
Total (less gas for the boat) - $350
Rick :)

Certification course: $65.00
Trip to Richard's Aqualung in NYC: $200 (I think) for a steel 72, hard pack, weights, depth gauge, knife. It was a high school graduation present from my parents. I asked for this instead of a party.
Swimaster Polaris II regulator: $55.00. I wanted to buy a rebuilt two-hose Aquamaster for $35, but my father didn't like the idea. He gave me the extra $20 for the new regulator.
Air at $1.25 per fill
Ikelite Light: <$50
Parkway 1/4" wet suit: <$100

I had the mask, snorkel, and fins.

The experience was priceless.

Not much, I learned to dive in the UK BSAC system the club loaned kit out, rented all the stuff for a pittance.
PADI was not a know agency so it was not a option to pay for a class so the club system was the only way to go.

lets see, about 500 in my first year, parents paid for O/W course...but this year...hoooo, i think i just surpassed the 5k mark just in gear, then theres the dive trips to toby, the vacation to cozumel i just paid for, the twin rig i want, the dry suit i want, i mean atleast 3k more in gear this year i want.......holy crap i want to stop thinking about this :crafty:

Is this realy something we want to think about? Do I have to count the dive boat in the price tag? Whatever it adds up to, it was worth every penny!

All of it plus 10%!

And damn well worth it!

Joe

Im a youngster at only 14 and I'm in my 2nd year of diving. So far...I've spent about $500-600 of my own money on diving. Need to cut back quite a bit and start saving for a car!

1989 - Probably around $2000. :D

That's nothing compared to now, since I'm an instructor. It seems like the money jest seeps through the poors of my wallet. :10:

Between PADI, V&B, materials, equipment, printing, copying,mailing..........

Add on twin daughters that are now old enough to learn and $$$$$$$$$$$$$
