Can someone please describe to me (dictionary style) how to pronounce the word CENOTE ? My English intinct tells me it's seh-noht, but my minute Mexican instinct tells me it's seh-notay, or sey-notay. Help!

Gracias!

I wondered myself. I once had to ask how to pronounce Phuket? No, it doesn't rhyme with Bucket! (tee-hee)

When I was down in Cancun last year, the locals pronounced it seh-notay... I just wish I had actually been able to dive one!

Hi squarepants,

I have created an audio file with the word cenote, but I see there is no way to attach an audio file in the board.. anyway, I have left it the public partition of my disk at my work place, in case you want to hear it. You can access it in
http://www.inaoep.mx/~itziar/cenote.wav and should have no problem playing it if you are using Microsoft software. I repeat "cenote" twice, once stressing each syllable, and the second at a normal speed. I hope that helps.

Itziar :)

I will have no problems asking a dive op about doing a cenote dive now. An audio file too, no less! Thanks Itziar! You sound just like the voice on my "Instant Immersion Spanish" language tutorial. Very cool!
