Monitor official progress and your airline for travel impacts. Being flexible on travel dates may work in your favor but with seats sometimes limited, quick decisions on changing flights may be more successful than waiting until the airline does it for you.

Also keep in mind that a flight that originates in a possible impacted area and is canceled may cause problems at a connecting airport far away.

Options might include leaving a day early, rerouting through another US city or flying into Cancun and taking Mayair or the bus/ferry

We are cringing in advance of this one up here in NJ after the freak Halloween storm last year and Irene; My company spent Thursday planning and Friday distributing, filling and placing sandbags for our commercial tenants. We're out there all this weekend trying to shore up areas affected by Irene last time, many of which had never seen flood waters before. The utilities are telling everyone they are better prepared this time, but nobody believes them. For me, the worst part will be losing power and looking at the brand new generator on its pad outside that is 3/4 hooked up and won't be ready in time for the storm. I can't wait to get wet again, but not this way! Fleeing to Coz sounds great to me! Water bottles and 20 ziplock bags half filled with water already frozen, lol.

Fill a bathtub with water for toilet flushing water if needed.

She looks like she might really mean business..... My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you in her way. Prepare and be safe!

Schools closed, all public transportation suspended, no batteries or water to be found in any store, we are stocked up with food, water, milk and vodka.......let the storm begin!

Man, people are cold as ice. We have had many reports of sandbags stolen from our tenants after we placed them - and nothing we can do now for them. Waaay cold.

Best wishes to all of you in Sandy's swath for a good outcome for you, your family, your friends, your property, businesses & pets. Please keep us abreast of news, if you can. Thank you.
