Just out of curiosity, did he doctor suggest treatment for shingles? If they are to be treated, the sooner the better, and a couple of days may be too late.

One day I had a sense that I had a cut on my head, within the hairline. My wife could see nothing. I walked outside and a very light breeze blew my hair. It hurt. I knew something unusual was going on, and I got a doctor's appointment immediately. The breeze blowing your hair should not hurt. The doctor immediately described the very onset of shingles and gave me antivirals. As a result, my case was remarkably mild.

I agree with all those who say it is a hydroid sting, but if it is shingles, you need to act immediately.
