Ok, so first of all a little background information on the PADI IDC Gili Trawangan based program.

Our program is conducted at Trawangan Dive, the first ever PADI 5 Star IDC Career Development Center to be established in both the Gili Islands and the entire Lombok region. The resort is one of the most popular resorts on Gili Trawangan for people taking entry level courses such as the Discover Scuba Diving program and the Open Water Diver Course and therefore new Instructor graduates who opt to take advantage of our free team teaching will be teaching alongside our seasoned PADI Instructors and therefore will get the best of both worlds, plenty of interaction with new divers and plenty of opportunity to gain an insight to how experience instructors conduct their programs. The resort is also one of the most spacious resorts on Gili Trawangan offering accommodation, 2 bars, a swimming pool, a restaurant, a picture perfect beachfront, paddle boarding, kayaking, and relaxing tropical gardens.

All Instructor level programs are conducted by our Platinum PADI Course Director Holly, who works here at Trawangan Dive full time conducting the entire Instructor Development Program and all other Instructor level training. As a full time member of staff Holly is with you throughout the program, during the course and also long after the course has finished therefore conducting and additional training that candidates may choose or even assisting here candidates with Job searching and the construction of their C.V’s. Holly has spent the best part of the last 15 years working in and around the diving industry and has been exposed to a variety of diving related roles in a variety of countries. Her career has taken her around to some truly remarkable places including Europe, Egypt, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Australia and of course Indonesia. So Holly is also available to advise IDC Graduates on job placements and locations i.e. what to expect from potential employers and from the areas where the job is offered, and also of course what will be expected of them, for example the types of cliental or the specialties that may be required. Last year Holly was reclassified as a Platinum PADI Course Director and also won the PADI award for “Commitment to Instructor Development”. Earlier this year she was once again reclassified to an “Elite” Platinum PADI Course Director in recognition of her experience in conducting Instructor level programs.

So what’s new on the course? Firstly there is the New Revised PADI Open Water Course, which is actually not going to become mandatory in Indonesia till later in the year, and the PADI Instructor Exam is based on the Classic/ traditional course. However during our IDC Gili Trawangan Program we have firstly introduced the skills from the new course into our confined water sessions so as to give candidate an introduction to the new course. After the candidates have passed their Instructor Exam our Course Director runs a series of workshops introducing all aspects of the New Revised Course therefore graduate Instructors will be prepared to teach both the classic and the revised course. Another new addition to the program is the New Project AWARE presentation, which is not mandatory and therefore can be considered as optional by the candidate. It basically introduces the Project AWARE foundation and highlights their aims, objectives and achievements and the presentation ends with a quick quiz which is designed to be fun and educational. The basic idea is that instructors can than go out into the industry and act as true ambassadors for the foundation, bridging the gap and introducing the benefits of supporting them. Another exciting development within the program is that we have seen more and more local Indonesian candidates choosing our program and we now have three active Indonesian instructors working in some of the busiest dive centers in the Gili Islands and all are now enjoying rewarding a successful careers in “teaching the world to dive”. Deris, who is from Jakarta and previously took his PADI Divemaster Course here in Gili Trawangan is enjoying a new and rewarding career with Blue Marlin Dive in Gili Trawangan. Sulman, who previously worked as a boat captain and PADI Divemaster for Blue Marlin Dive in Gili Meno has returned to the dive center and joined their main pool of PADI Instructors. In fact Sulman was actually the first ever PADI Instructor who is from Gili Meno and
therefore Sulman’s IDC Gili Islands Success Story makes a fascinating read. Ovan, who also recently took his Instructor Course at Trawangan Dive has been working in the Gili Islands for some time now and has now settled down working at Gili Divers in Gili Trawangan. Before the IDC Ovan was working as a PADI Divemaster, but was also considered as a jack of all trades in Gili Divers as he is also the equipment technician and maintains the compressor and therefore Ovan’s IDC Gili Islands Success Storyalso makes a fascinating read.

The PADI IDC Career Development Course at Trawangan Dive runs on a monthly basis and is conducted over a period of 11 days. It is also strongly recommended that candidates arrive a minimum of 4 day before the course starts to take advantage of the free pre IDC preparation workshops. If you’re looking to make a rewarding and successful career as a PADI Instructor this is the place!
