Solution to retain the diffuser on an Ikelite DS51 strobe:
Buy a 3 inch no hub coupling from Home Depot. The coupling has a lid inside, which will be used to hold the diffuser in place.
Take one of the stainless steel clamp from the fastener. You will use it to secure the diffuser holder.
Cut the coupling to remove the extra material. I used a Dremel to do this.
