I think he did...fly into Coz!
But 350 bucks is a lot of of $...

If it were just me, it'd be worth the extra money. But x3 people....that's the diving budget....

I actually got an even better deal. I got bumped by last week by the airline going to Orlando, so I scored a business upgrade for that trip, and 2 r/t tickets for later..... and Airtran flies to CUN.... :)

Pat,
I will never fly into Cancun again unless I'm staying in Cancun. I'm just glad we didn't have the kids with us or it would have been worse. The shuttle to Playa de Carmen was like 1.5 hours because we were dropping others off at other resorts and it was $64USD for the two of us then the ferry to Coz was 40 mins and $24 USD then a 15 min cab ride to our resort which was $15USD including tip.
What I would do differently is fly into Coz..just for the headache alone. With all the lost time we had to leave our resort at 0930 local time for our 1355 flight.
Also the flight back to Canada was a horror show and a story all it's own.
Jeremy

Medic,
Please tell me about the bag drag... I take it you flew into Cancun and then ground transported to Coz.....

I'm doing the same thing in May....$843 to CZM versus $500 to CUN per person was just to good to pass up....... tell me what you did, and what you would do differently!

Thanks!

Likewise, my threshold for flying into CUN instead of CZM is rather high. Going down, it's not too bad as long as you adopt an island time attitude from the get-go and don't get impatient. Coming home, though, it just plain sucks.

I've found that flying into CUN and home from Coz is usually a nice compromise. I don't much mind the bag drag on arrival (I AM on vacation at that point), but coming home it just makes the journey so much longer. I still saved over $100 doing it that way vs. flying both ways into Coz on an upcoming trip.

i do it both ways depending on connection times with ferry or mayair. from your writeup, i can tell you there is a better way to get to playa than the way you did it.
arrange for a driver to meet you. he will be holding up a sign with your name on it. i used mayair last year but 2 yrs ago the price for my van service was $40. after negotiating. i used cancungotravel.com but another poster here knows a better service (or he was a better negotiator?). it is 100% your van. no stops unless you want to grab something at a convenience store on the road.
once i get to coz i now always stay downtown because i like to interact with the locals and i use a downtown op, aldora. from the coz pier i grab a tricycle guy to take my luggage to the hotel. those guys take whatever you choose to pay which is based on how many bags you have and how far your hotel is. i like the casa mexicana. orbitz often has nice deals with them. speaking of orbitz, do you know about the code for $100 discount?
frankly, i like the ferry. this was your first trip and you probably did not kick back until you knew you had accomplished the journey to the hotel. i pretty much kick back when i am seated port side outside where i can see dolphins and coz getting close as i listen to a band playing for tips. adds to the ambiance more than squeezing my 6 ft, 5in 250lb body into a little mayair seat.
if the connection is too close for your departing flight out of cun, consider overnighting in playa. it is a fun place. i stay at luna blue when i do that. have your van service pick you up at your hotel.

Medic, what service did you use?

I was going to use this services when I go in May till I got a better deal flying straight in to Coz. Are we allowed to put these links in here? If not, I will take it out.

Cancun Airport Transfers from $9.00 Per Person - Playa Del Carmen, Riviera Maya too.

Here is what they advertise:

"COZUMEL HOTELS - FERRY TICKETS INCLUDED - $49.00 / $98.00
Includes: Transfer to ferry pier in Playa del Carmen, Ferry Tickets to Cozumel (a $13.00 per person each way value), Transfer from Cozumel Ferry Pier to your Cozumel Hotel. Round-trip Transfers add the reverse. Fully escorted transfers from the Cancun Airport to your Cozumel Hotel and back."

Ferry Ride- the water was so rough people on the ultramar ferry were throwing up, my wife almost.

Cancun airport- got randomly searched by mexican security right before getting on airplane.

Cacun to Philly- no incidents

Philly to Halifax - everything was on time grabbed some food in Philly airport before boarding. 80 miles from Halifax were pu tin a holding pattern around Halifax because weather was too bad to land pilots had a visibilty of 1000ft they need 1200 to land. we are 1/7 airplanes circling Nova Scotia..we run low on fuel and have to head back to Bangor to re-fuel..then the airline decides Halifax is not good enough to land so they return us back to Philly..there we stay until 0940 am eastern time for the next flight out while the wife and I called poeple to watch our kids until we got home. We start back to Halifax and the weather is still crappy but we land anyway and get home..found out on Facebook a lot friends of mine couldn't land in Halifax due to weather..get home and big hugs form kids.
Do tell .....
