I just got back from Kauai - I spent some time working with Sacred Seas - a shore diving outfit. We routinely started at 7:30 [earlier if you wanted] and the clients would be clear about 11. I didn't do any boat diving, but I expect they do the same.

My son, who spent the summer, returns tomorrow - I'll update this message if he has any additional information.

How much did Sacred Seas charge for a shore dive? What are average prices for shore dives in Kauai assuming no rental gear?

Try Fathom Five. They are a great op. I know we left early, and I believe we were back by 11. Give them a caqll and they will let you know if they can do it.

If you're staying in the south, there's Seasport out of Poipu. They leave at 7:30 and are back by 11:30. http://www.seasportdivers.com/BoatDives.php

I also preferred Fathom Five. Don't remember exactly when we left, but most of their divesites are 10 mins. from the harbor. So you get back pretty early as well. One time we were back about 1/2 hr. early - I remember cause I had to wait for my ride. http://www.fathomfive.com/index.htm

Although I think generally every dive op on Kauai has similar departure times due to the winds picking up in the afternoon.

And if it matters, Seasport has a bigger boat, but they limit the # of divers. Fathom Five is six-pack diving - which I preferred btw, with six competent divers we spent a long time one morning being filmed with turtles at Sheraton Caverns. They sort divers by skill level onto their 2 boats.
