That's the thing.... the guy is looking back but he isn't rowing at all! The water behind him and next to the boat is unbroken and has none of the churn effect you get when you row.

Either he has balls of steel, good knowledge about sharks not attacking stationary canoes or only just saw it!

Or maybe the picture was taken just before his shorts disappeared up his back side!
