Anyone know of a local nitrox class coming up in the next couple of weeks that doesn't require you to complete any dives? I heard that NAUI and SSI don't require dives as part of the nitrox certification.

Thanks.

UPDATE - Never mind. I found one. Scuba Toys. Cool.

There you are! We never get to see you now that you're in the ADP class.

When will that be over?

And to post something on topic, I don't know of anyplace that gives you a nitrox cert without doing dives. I've heard a lot about them though!

Hey Jim,didnt you use Terry from the rancho sportschalet for ow or adv. he teaches nitrox privately, but does require dives. I paid for the class and am just waiting to set up dates.I think it was 175.00 or so incl. materials

Well, we've got 3 weekends left (Lake Castaic next weekend, then Malaga the following weekend, then Casino Pt. and the College of Oceaneering on Oct. 1&2), then a weekend off, then finals and graduation on Oct. 15.

I'm thinking of trying geezer gas on our deep dive at Casino Pt. on Oct. 1st, so I want to get a Nitrox cert before then. Turns out Scuba Toys just started a two night nitrox class last night, but they're going to let me take the second one next Monday and catch me up on the missed class sometime in the next week or two. Can't ask for better service than that. Pretty incredible.

Is that Jim Hoffman teaching that?

Is it a Nitrox class with no dives?

Yeah, just two classes, no dives. And I believe it was Jim I talked to. Not sure though.

Cool. Jim's a great guy. I may look into this in the future, since I am not certified for Nitrox either.

I was just looking at his web site and it looks like you do 2 lectures and 2 open water dives:

http://scuba-toys.com/classes/nitroxdiver.html

It seems to say that you get some sort of lesser certification and can be upgraded to an EANx Diver certification upon completion (within six months) of the required dives under supervision of a NAUI EANx Instructor.

Do you know what the deal is with that?

Sorry if I've gone off topic... is there diving allowed at Castaic? if so where? and are there other freshwater dive locations in the So. Cal area? Thanks

It's probably similar to ANDI, which I got my Nitrox cert through, they have a cert for recreational (up to 40% O2) and a complete (no restrictions). Complete is really for the people who are getting ready to go through some tech/caver classes or something along those lines. They both require dives, but truthfully at least for the rec cert all the skills are performed actually before the dive begins, analyzing, calculating MOD. I did the dives in conjunction with my OW checkout, killed 2 birds with one stone essentially.
