I own the 1200HD and recommend against it.

The battery life is unacceptable. If you're shooting with a flash it won't last through a full dive never mind a 2 tank dive. Using the built-in flash is necessary even with the use of an external probe since it requires the on-board to fire as a master with the external strobe as a slave with TTL.

My camera started locking up. I was told by a S&S associate it was an overheating problem "normal" for cameras with a large LCD and to leave the camera off until I'm ready to shoot a pic and then turn it off again. Then turn it on again when ready to shoot and this isn't a problem since the start up time is so "fast". Ha!

Then the lense seized completely and I had to send it for repair.

Macro shooting is less than desirable.

The processing time is a little slow.

The video mode is nice and shoots decent video.

I have no exposure to the DC1200.
