# of dives
500 - 999
hello,

This sunday my GF and me will go to Malta(Bugibba) for a week. We will do a few dives with a dive center, for the rest of the week we did hire tanks and a car to do shore dives.
We have a luxury problem, there are so many dive sites to choose from. So if someone has a few tips of what sites we should explore for sure, they are more Then welcome.

Ps. We aren’t looking for technical dives, max depth of 40m and around 10min deco max.

Thanks in advance.

Gozo has a few nice dive sites (e.g. Blue Hole). There are a couple easy wrecks in Cirkewwa. Otherwise very popular is the El Faroud in the south.

Can highly recommend Buddies Dive Cove in Bugibba.

Billinghurst Caves, and the Inland Sea (round to the Blue Hole) are probably my favourite dives.

== Diving sites :
* Chirkeva. this is the port from which ferries go p-451.jpgon the island of Gozo. there is a long pier where cars come in and can be freely placed on it in several rows. three stairs to the water. there is a very "children's" entrance to the water -but there are usually crowded people. and as he wrote above -they are not accustomed to give way, sometimes they have to crucify.
place is good so that at any time there you can dive in -very rarely when the storm so it's hard to go. well, plus -one of the closest to the DC and convenient dive sites.
what is there:

-rack P-29 -patrol boat, flooded specially. everything is cleaned inside, you can safely go inside. depth on the ground -about 33-35m (almost all the racks lie at these depths, because if smaller -the storms will break all the nafig). It looks amazingly beautiful. 1) due to very clear water in its location 2) very carefully installed on the ground 3) the shape of the ship -antennas, felling, pipe, internal premises ...
in a word -it is not a pity to him and dive several times.
located "on the left" -if you look at the water from the ladder -then the left yellow buoy.
go to it best at 5 meters, and only coming to him within good visibility to fall down -so the most spectacular sight, when you go to it almost vertically ...

- Rozy -the tug. "right" from the entrance (right yellow buoy).
Well, the boat and the boat. just as carefully all prepared, cleaned, you can safely dive into it.
he is inside very simple, special skills do not need to go into it and exit. beautifully you can walk along the sides.
on the ground is also approximately -about 35 m
You can go to it and more smoothly -it looks better when you approach it from the side. You can dive between the tiller and the hull (32 m about the depth). So for beginners rackers -the most it! :)
p-407.jpgp-408.jpgp-398.jpg

-the statue of the Madonna . p-406.jpg is located approximately in the area of the right ladder. stands at 15m, where the underwater wall is L-shaped and bends into the sea. costs in a niche. there are still some signs nearby.

-arch . if you go even further beyond the Madonna to the right, at 20+ meters after a large field of grass it stands. very funny form -as if someone had gnawed a piece of rock with a broad shovel, and put a jumper on top. there is more cautious -very much muddied.

-cave (I do not remember now where exactly, swill between the arch and Madonna). hole in the rock, a length of 10 meters below the entrance, top right exit. the walls are all scratched by divers. (ie, clean, especially nothing to touch). on the ceiling there are white sponges and (*** as this belly is called, again I forgot -in the form of an elongated heart, with tubes with cilia from above on the center and from the side).

-multi-level plateau. to the left of the entrance. it is convenient to defend the system. there are many small Mediterranean living creatures. algae, stars, fish ...

* (Zurrick area)
go a long way through the whole Malta (whole kilometers 20, if along the length of the road, on a straight line even more -kilometers 15 aprox.), along absolutely stunning streets that are laid between beige stone fences, which enclose a huge number of plots, in order that from them the last crumbs of the earth did not blow away. and there is nothing to build from there, and the stone is easily processed and is full of it.
You come to the cliff, and on a sharp descent you crawl almost to the sea. there is a narrow and very deep creeping bay. The former (and, similarly, current) fishing haven. next to the corner there is a cafe where several jaws of sharks caught in that area hang, and an article about a local fisherman (perhaps that of a cafe owner) who caught one of them -the biggest one caught in Malta (on the photo -three or four meters probably) . and a completely original dock for boats -in a small ravine the base is ground in the form of a gutter, and planks are full across. it all comes down to the water. and on these boards (and the slope of the ravine is very large), they drag boats upstairs from the storms further away. there is also a descent to the water. the car you are coming on stands on a slope at a very large angle (upward, that it would leave sometimes you have to get out of the car). at the bottom of the water a concreted wall and several ladders.
and if you enter the water during a storm, there is no particular problem -jumped and forward, then go out on the ladder that the exit from the bay -oh, as not easy. the second time we generally went deep into the bay (there and defenses easier), and climbed the ladder that is in the depths. then the truth on the shore back had to fight a little. but the ribs are intact, not repulsed from the first of the ladders.

-Rack El Faroud -tanker, the history of flooding is unknown to me (mine as specially).
a huge dish, there is where to clear up, if not depth ... he like everything -lies at 30+ meters.
it is not very convenient to row before it -far from all lies ... two times further than the above-mentioned on Chirkevo.
go to it better of course from the stern -look very nice ... but only given its size -it's better to go all the way in shallow water, and then fall 30 meters from it. although it lies in the south-west of Malta, in fact, in the open sea and there can sometimes be non-weak currents.
approaching him you see the felling, flocks of barracudas, stairs, fences -the spectacle is very interesting. the barracudas graze in the enclosure, which is enclosed by a fence of the site immediately after the felling. inside the "holds" are open. you can dive into them ..
it is possible to be beautiful around the felling -along the corridors.
well, plus the size of course is very significant.
(the truth is there is such a ship -Le Polinesian -that's a huge ... but alas, the depth for us was at that time wrong, it lies as much as 50m (60+ swill) .
p-464.jpgp-465.jpgp-466.jpgp-459.jpg

-cave on the right edge of the bay -you swim in it somewhere on 23m, and climb up. and there every few meters -outlets on the rifle (as many as three).

-itself the bay . while the situation is standing still there is nothing to do -you are considering what is on the bottom ... and there are certainly many different algae, beautiful, the animals swim and crawl there. Well, you collect garbage. found a spark plug. then another ... so 6 or 7 pieces brought to the surface in the end. and almost all different :)
-saw there seahorse :) yellow, "hairy" :) before this as all the usual, sleek came across only.

* Anchor Bay (where the village Popeye). is not reaching Cirkewa, to the left. p-437.jpg

while you go to the bay - on the opposite side there is a cartoon village, which was once built for the filming of the regular film about the sailor Popeye, but then became one of the famous tourist places in Malta. beautiful houses with curved roofs, mini-water park, wooden pier with a bunch of sun beds, cafes, souvenir shops, in general a lot of things ... we have not been there, but only from the opposite side looked at it. an ideal place to send there the unwilling, and on the other side and under the water :) but the entrance fee.
opposite in the rock is cut, like a knife, artificial descent that goes to the concrete pier (before the film was continued). no matter how healthy the pier was - but the middleland and it did not spare - the beginning of the pier is broken by waves and fell down to a meter, but to go down there really, even in the outfit. the pier stands across the bay, so that the entrance to the water from the inside to any storm is not a problem, as is the access to the pris by the ladder.
inside the bay is very shallow, floats flounder, mullet, scorpion. and that the most ridiculous - whether scorpions know how to change color, whether on the sand live yellow-green, and on the stones red-brown. in the pier there is a place where it can be swim through. we swim the pier, and finally we come to the places that I like most of all in the middle of the earth - the most varied landscapes, all overgrown with sponges, algae, grass. pillars, stones, gorges, pits. sometimes there are pits in which a layer of torn grass and algae hangs on the bottom, which, together with the water, dangles back and forth after the waves. but since you are hanging out with water in the same direction - then if you are attentive to look at this "cushion" of algae - it seems that they are not going back and forth, and that the stones are moving. totally unrealistic feeling. do not know that the depth of 5-7 meters - here it is Nitrogen Narcosis :)
if you swim to the left, then after a while the small landscapes end and a larger hole is found, just after a small cliff, and on the right there is a big canyon.
and from this pit to the shore, the depth of about 6m, there is an entrance to the cave.

p-439.jpgp-440.jpgp-443.jpgp-444.jpgp-445.jpgp-446.jpg

-Cave : right at the entrance, almost in the middle, at the bottom, a stunning dark purple anemone grows. how many I saw them in the middle of the road -this was the first time I met him.
unfortunately we (probably still me) did not understand our guide very well, and went to look for the remaining halls of the cave not inside it, but went outside and went along the wall. and it was necessary to look for the bottom, inside the first hall. it is a fairly large room, in shape closest to the ball. meters 10-15 probably in diameter. in it from the interesting -the dome and the view of the entrance with the lights turned off, well, the fish come across. but in the other two halls live shrimp, and some sponges. unfortunately we did not get there :( we did not immediately see the passage to another hall.
p-441.jpgp-442.jpg

if you go further, along the wall, behind the cave, then at the bottom lie some strange structures, similar to antennas from the ship, a meter two or three long.
in general in such regions it is most possible to meet different creatures, stars, moray eels (only there I was the only one on this trip and saw), the most diverse fish.
It is very unfortunate that DC thinks this dive site is not the most interesting -it seems to me to dive in there the last days, before departure -the best place -rest yourself calmly, no more than 12 meters deep, you can not fail anywhere, and you can always find something new. than to me the Mediterranean Sea most of all also is pleasant -and you try to find this beauty! but then all efforts will be repeatedly rewarded. Yes, and a ball 15 enough for a very long time, rather freeze than tired or the air will end.
well, and for introdive -a place better not to think :) although in general, let go to free swimming, if the person keeps well. here is our Princess, who before that she once dived with scuba, at first was afraid, snorted from the mask, but then, as I understand it, almost had to force her to pull out :) and I'm happy with how very much I stayed, and the suit and fins -as it should -pink was specially found for her, and even had time to be photographed on the photo :)
p-438.jpg

* Manoel Island (between Sliema and Valletta)
the entrance to the island is made on the bridge, but somehow you do not even notice it, admiring the protective walls of the fortresses of Valeta. on the hill there is a hospital, further on the end of the island -there was a palace, alas -I do not know the name, there is a restoration. the car stops on the road, at the lowest point where we unload. before the water -a couple of stones, and you already dived. we are looking for a free place among cacti and bushes, where to lay out the equipment. dressed, close the car and go ahead.

-rack X-127 WaterLighter Coralita -was hit during the war in 42 year by torpedo. It brought equipment, medicines to the hospital. at the bottom are still lying beds, fallen out of him.
lies much to the right of the place where they went into the water, but at least in the bays near the cities the water and muddy, but on the road a lot of funny things happened. Almost no algae and grass (only mostly placers of small pebbles and cobblestones), but all kinds of living creatures are full of stars, worm-trees (with brushes of centimeters 10-15 cm) in diameter, different fish. cuttlefish was met on the way back. ancient bottles come across. Our guide even found there at the bottom and showed us the remains of an ancient clay pipe.
the boat lies starting from 7 meters and down, exactly along the slope, up to 20-30 meters, at an angle of about 45 degrees. visibility is like this, meters 5. if you look from above -then in the right board you can see a hole from the torpedo. on the deck there are manholes from light mines. on the nose are large bollards.
of the features -a real crippled ship, and not a "dummy". its location is very interesting -45 degrees down the slope of the shore.
p-426.jpgp-427.jpgp-428.jpgp-469.jpg

* Marsascala
on the cape a large parking lot. the road along which they rode passes around it, passing between it and the sea along an even arc. Open space, and gentle

- racks of tugs Toughboat T-10 and SanMichel .
to divide their meaning no - because they make up the intended composition together. stand strictly one by one. depth is less - about 25 m.
first go to the one on the left.
visibility is not very, meter 3-4. the rack is old enough (in appearance). passing on the starboard side - inside is visible a latrine, and a sea cucumber, almost literally sitting on it :)
on the rack a lot of small blue nudibranchs. alas, it's a bit of a storm, and that's why it's hard to take a picture of it - all the time the shag is coming out ... but the warmth and statistics will change everything - more or less we managed to find one normal frame from the heap :)
small boat.
go to the next, about 25 meters from him. similar in size, but with a pipe. the same inside did not climb. there are also nudibranchs.
on the way to the shore they met a bunch of sea stars, fish, seaweed. octopus.

* Salima Bay opposite Aura (Quawra)
exit from the port in SanPaul.

- The Statue of Christ .
it's hard to say something else, except that it needs to be seen.
falling from above there is first a square pedestal, then it shows the appearance of the statue. and it's really big. on the ground - 38m somewhere. in general imagine that you are in Rio de Janeiro, on the mountain, only this mountain is under water, and you can swim up to the statue ...
(well, not quite certainly it is of such a height, but there are 5 meters in appearance). anyway - to swim at hand with Christ ...
Well done those who invented it to put. great
p-430.jpgp-431.jpg

-Rack Emperial Eagle .
an old steamer. the road to it from the statue lies through a beautiful tunic in the hill that stands between the statue and the ship.
swim to the nose. on the nose is clearly visible anchor winch and a semi-circular room on the nose. probably there was either a hall or a restaurant. So immediately understandable -this is a real steamer :) not something designed specifically for some special tasks, but a place where people rested, had fun (who went on river boats -will understand). and all of it is executed in the old style, with semicircular halls, even inside there is a wooden staircase down.
center is a pipe, for which you can hold and pose :)
because of the great depth (on the bottom of the order of 40 m) and what else it is necessary before it was to dive the statue -unfortunately it did not turn out to swim inside. on the steamer live beautiful purple nudibranchs.
well and further follows a slow way out on a rope upward, back to the bot. everything is very good, but alas, it is not enough ... it would be possible to swim a lot more there ...
p-432.jpgp-433.jpgp-434.jpgp-435.jpgp-436.jpg

* The island of Gozo
we get to the island by ferry. ferry 463935[/ATTACH] http://content.foto.mail.ru/mail/raven123/397/i-475.jpg - this is a separate song -a huge ship, where even wagons call in. all of the lower rooms where cars are standing are pushed upward, where there are two decks for walks and halls where you can just sit inside, and the second -where is the buffet. the truth usually people so much that if you come to the buffet last and get in the queue, then when you need to already buy food -it's time to go ...
ferries are beautiful. there are three very similar to each other. and they do not unfold, but go like shuttles -i.e. then what was the nose on the way back becomes stern and vice versa. if in Malta passengers are on the same ramp as cars, then goozo exit through a separate trap at the top.
tickets for a car to go to Gozo -not required :)
but here on the way back -you pay for the road and there and back.
on the way to the right hand passes the island of Kamino, where they say only one family lives. visible on it beautiful beaches and grottoes, to which access is directly from the water. and a lot of boats.
the capital of Gozo is Victoria. on the way to the capital, we pass many beautiful cathedrals and other very interesting buildings, although in general the architecture is almost the same as in Malta.
the dive sites are on the opposite side.
in Victoria there is on the mountain an old beautiful fortress, in which there is a cathedral in which the dome is not built, but painted. for some reason they did not continue to build the central dome, and the view of the columns and windows that go up is simply drawn on the ceiling of the part that closes the dome. p-453.jpg
on the territory of the fortress there are a lot of prickly pears (cacti are such, my wife calls them "cakes" for the appearance of the branches, which are full of fruits in the middle and the end of September, to taste -something reminiscent of kiwi, only bigger bones, and completely unbroken. ). and fences composed of weathered blocks of sandstone, p-501.jpg which forms very interesting patterns
if you go from the entrance to the right, then climbing up to the wall, you can see at the bottom of the fort construction, thick walls, guns ... and the local guards ... :)
p-499.jpgp-498.jpgp-476.jpg
from the fortress (if you go to the left) in the distance you can see a mountain on which there is also a statue, but from afar it is not clear who. This mountain is called Golgotha.

also on the way to the divesites we pass something like KraftVillage - a small fenced area where shops are located where different crafts are made - glassware (very beautiful, but the prices are kusyuchie), leather goods (there are very beautiful rugs), ceramics (mostly various interesting tablets and bas-reliefs at home), metal decorations, fabric-sewn (I do not know how to call it one word), well, and something else on the little things.

- Blue Hole
we come to the place. in the distance you can see the sea.
with our guide we have a promise - get out - whistles the ice cream maker to make ice cream on the special recipe .. :)
from the comforts - right next to the parking lot - the shower. it is very convenient especially in DrySuit - it was also fastened under a cold shower, so as not to overheat. especially considering that from the parking lot to the water stomping and stomping, on the stones with the cut down steps, on slightly slippery slabs that near the water. so you need to be more careful.
and here we are at the very BlyuHol :) go to dive into the arch :)
because from the entrance at once breakage - you can fall with your back and immediately rake to the center.
immersion: water BLUE. very beautiful, especially the shadows that form in this well. and here is the arch ... in principle, you can even try to pop it out without baloons :) the top is rather shallow. but still very beautiful.
Go left, watch what's next. beautiful walls, flocks and groups of large fish. watched as a couple of tunas chased a trifle.
further down the road, small (about 5 meters deep) lagoons emerge to the left. but there is a little bit of shaking from the waves.
in places there is a current. so you need to be prepared that on the way back you will have to work hard with fins, and calm down beforehand, and tune in for a uniform but long work, until we come out for a turn. if you still ate the air - it's better not to go straight to the lagoons, but still try to swim to the very arch and get out already inside - yet this site is directly looking into the open sea and there's a little bit of shaking ...
p-462.jpgp-417.jpgp-418.jpgp-411.jpg

- Inland Sea
from the parking near BlyuHol we leave about 50 meters and a bit under the hill, in the direction of the rocks, forming a circus.
Hefty arena, in the middle of which there is a large lake with a tunnel passing through the rock somewhere into the distance. On the tunnel boats are darting. and in the middle of this "lake" is a concrete pier, smoothly flowing into the water.
pass almost to the end of the pier, we fall into the water and leisurely along the left edge, we swim to the entrance to the tunnel.
in the tunnel you need to be more careful ... I alas had to ask to wait for the comrades, and urgently to submerge what would mend the mask. hung hanging in the wall, for the sight of passing boats, to put it mildly, is restless. But the obturator was quickly put in place, and we continued the descent. depth in the tunnels fair - about 15 meters probably. it is in the form of a vertical deep and high crack. In the tunnels there are amusing little shelves, one of which managed to lie down and take a picture. in the tunnel itself it is quite dark. at the exit is a very beautiful sight of divers diving :)
also saw some very strange rock, in which there were three almost identical holes, somewhere with a long melon sized. What was it? who knows.
p-419.jpgp-420.jpgp-413.jpg
behind the tunnel are the same walls, rocks, a bunch of living creatures on them and the most interesting:

- cave Neptune's Breath .
The entrance to it is a narrow vertical slit. top somewhere 4-5 meters. we float inside.
inside it also turns out to be long, deep enough, and with a ceiling wedging upward. above the entrance are seen the stones that fell from above, and blocked it, so that access is only through the course that we ducked.
the most interesting is that the water in this cave constantly moves up and down, with an amplitude of the order of two meters, and an interval of 8 seconds. In this case, the whistling of air passing through the stones above the entrance is audible. but the most pleasant thing is that there is not really a flow, and if you hang in the center, it does not go anywhere, but just rolls like on a swing.
the ceiling of the cave is all wet, brown (usually in other parts of Malta caves are all gray).
p-414.jpgp-415.jpgp-416.jpg

yes, at the entrance to the tunnel of the inland sea we see 33 heroes coming to meet :) well, not 33, but our techno-diver, who on what - who with the rebreather, with various balloons, who is hung with stages, with a camera ... p-412.jpg
So they then told that everything is good, dive regularly. but as it turned out - bluishol and tunnels took their tribute (fortunately only in the form of spent nerves). If you dive into the bluish, you had to interrupt the dive closer to the end, because one of us lost breath, and it was not possible to restore it normally.
in the tunnel, as it turned out, in addition to my mask, it was still up to me that one of the rebreather's bales was blown off the road (it was seen that the valve in the car was spinning during transportation), I had to put more spare. as it turned out that Halcyon springs still justified their reputation, and were successfully cured by two 2Euro coins :) Well, something else ... in general I do not remember.
as they say - the right diver (and a potential long-livers) is who on the first ****up will strongly reflect and the second will not allow. fortunately I have the mask's mask - I was well acquainted with it (though not under water, and earlier on the surface, so it was added to it, because in principle I could even restore it under water, but I do not like this case), well, in the case of comrades - one decided on the second dive not to go, and the other fellow fortunately realized on the third trail that not ... something is wrong here - and decided not to go either. So main thing to stop. but by itself all these troubles forced everyone to get together properly, and very carefully monitor themselves and others. all passed normally and well.
