I see on the Mares website that the new air-integrated system has two way communication between the tank module and the computer. This is supposed to make the data more reliable. I get that. It says that it will be able to communicate with "other devices" in the future. What does that mean? it looks like it can be configured to monitor other diver's gas pressures if they are using the Icon HD. Is that what they mean by other devices?

What if one of the "devices" was a transponder type module that I could attach to the anchor chain on the boat. I could swim away in murky water and then be able to return to the boat by looking at a glowing red dot on my computer compass. Is that the kind of "device" Mares is hinting at or am I thinking too small?

According to the manual the range of the radio signals is very short, about 5 feet, so it would be of no use as a locator. For that you need sound waves.

Personally all I want is a dependable computer not something that claims to do much more and can't deliver on basics.

Understand about the dependable computer part, but I was wondering what the future holds.
