I just got my open water certification at Dutch Springs last weekend and I'm going back this weekend for my Advanced open water certification. Everything went great on all of my check out dives except my mask constantly leaked and I had to keep on clearing it. I think the hood was breaking the seal the mask makes with your face. I have done about half a dozen resort dives in the carribean and never had a mask leaking problem. Of course I wasn't wearing a 7mm hood either. Is there a technique or a way to wear the hood/mask to eliminate or minimize the leaking? It always seemed to come from the left side of my face too. Not a real problem, but more of an annoyance. Any suggestions will be appreciated. I did try on the hood and mask at home to try and look at the problem in the mirror. Then I used my snorkel and stuck my head in the tub to try and reproduce the problem. It didn't leak then and my girlfriend saw me doing this and now officially thinks I'm nuts. Anyway the bath tub is one thing, but being in Dutch Springs at depth with scuba gloves on trying to fix your mask leak/seal is another. Anyone else have this problem?
Thanks,
Marc
