Hi Nick R,
Old MR12 had no replaceable seat, so if you scratched it during servicing the reg was likely to be ruined. Extra care is needed when remounting the reg or removing the diaphragm.
Newer releases have a replaceable seat (the "volcano" has an O-ring around) for that reason.
The first stage seat (and the Mares Trimaterial poppet) are not part of the annual service kit provided by Mares (AFAIK) so you have to buy them separately.
