I wrote a slightly tongue-in-cheek article about the connection between nitrogen narcosis and art. While I do not pretend that this is a solid & systematic study, I do think it's interesting to think which cognitive capabilities are more affected by inert gas narcosis, and which aren't.

There is probably a huge inter-individual difference in the effect of narcosis. To me, my short term memory feels affected the most, without much change in mood. I wonder if certain personality traits could be used to predict these changes?

The difference could be not perception but reduced fine motor control. 30 m is more straight lines which are easier to do.

Difference also could possibly be associated with impairment of close-accommodation vision.
