stone fish

They are poisonous if you get stuck by there dorsal fins, so I would suggest keeping your distance.

Well, It’s in the scorpionfish family, along with the stone fish. But if you saw it near Pensacola, it’s not truly a stone fish which are Indo-Pacific. I’d vote for Barbfish (Scorpaena brasiliensis).

My original thought was stonefish, then i got home and googled it.They aren't found in the Gulf. Thanks Guys, spotted scorpionfish it is.

It's a Spotted Scorpionfish (Scorpaena plumieri).
Also known locally as a "Fire Fish" 'cause if you get stuck you'll be on fire :)
