Yup gear does fail. however, I have spent literally thousands of hours underwater and experienced only one incidene of hp seat failure.

If I were to buy some new super cheap tires, and after driving 150 miles, I had a failure with the sidewall blowing out, I might reconsider the tires. Could be coincidence, who knows?

I'm back to using Oceaniic and scuba pro first stages.

First stage seat issues are not unheard of, see this Aeris (I think Oceanic and Aeris are related) recall notice posted a couple of years back:
