Unless you have some Canon lenses, you are better fitted with the Nikon D50 than the Rebel D.

Previously I've heard that Patima has made some announcement about the housing.
Besides that here's more info:

"We are now accepting pre-orders for the Nikon D80 Digital 10.2MP SLR Camera! You may pre-order the Nikon D80 Digital SLR Camera Set online for only $999.95 or call us at 603-432-1997 to place your order. This exciting new camera has a tentative availability for mid September!"

So, may I say, "how soon is too soon?"

If you are sure you want this camera, the best bet is to get on some lists ASAP. Those that got on the D200 lists in early Novermber got their camera's in general in the first wave which I *think* was early December. Those that waited genreally did not see product until late January if by then. The D200 remains sold out at most retailers 9 months after the release, but they are not that hard to find at retail from authorized dealers within a few shopping days for the savvy shopper. Once I decided to get mine, it was on the way in two days, so not THAT hard to get a hold of even if it took a bit of time looking online.

One would think that Nikon would learn from thier past mistakes, however for whatever reason they seem unable to keep up with demand for new products upon every major release (D200/18-200VR/105mm macro and even the outragous 200-400F4 VR).
