Since you are new, make sure your gear is all set up (if possible) before you even leave the dock. That way, you know you have a full tank, no leaking O-rings or hoses, computer turns on, ie., everything works, then turn off your gas and enjoy the ride. (gage your other tank before you leave the dock also, don't assume it is full regardless of what the shop says)

Then, when you get up from the first dive (if a 2 tanker), as soon as possible, switch your gear over to the new tank, get it all squared away, stowed away and secured, then (again) relax and enjoy.

Being completely ready really takes a way the stress. Another thing to consider, sometimes it is best to be the last off the boat, let everyone else trip on each other. Stay cool, drink lots of fluids!
