Oceanic Question

I'm planning to get my first reg and settled on Oceanic after a little research and the excellent opinions on this board.

Between the Gamma II and Alpha 7, what would you recommend?

Planning to get the DX4 1st stage with either 2nd stage. Has anyone had any problems with that? I dive mostly in the North California area btw, so cold-water performance is something I'm concerned about.
