Hey all!
26 year old male, AOW with 50 dives. In about three weeks Im travelling to Indonesia (Bali) to spend a month with diving, surfing and some perhaps some partying. Its my first visit to Bali and the first time Ill be travelling on my own for a longer period of time, although I have some experience after two ~three week trips to Thailand with friends and a Liveaboard in the Red sea.
The current plan is as follows
1. Arrive in Denpasar wednesday 16th July.
I arrive late in the evening so I guess its straight to the hostel and maybe a nightcap. Ill be staying two nights in Bali before moving on (see below). Here Id really appreciate some tips on a good hotel/hostel to recover from the jetlag and maybe meet some cool people. Id love to stay close to the beach aswell so I can get into the water as soon as possible when I wake up the next day, hehe.
2. Flight to Komodo/Labuan Bajo Friday 18th July.
After a day of recovery in Bali Ill be heading to Komodo for a one week liveaboard (!!!) with Wicked Diving. It departs on the 19th and is ofcourse probably the highlight of the whole trip. Since I will be spending Friday night and the night after coming back from the liveaboard in Labuan Bajo, Id love some advice on a good hostel to spend these two nights in.
3. Back to Bali July 26th.
With roughly 2,5 weeks left to spend in Indonesia (Im going back home to Sweden on August 13th) I thought Id share the time between Bali and Gili, and possibly anything else that youd recommend. After a week of diving in Komodo Ill probably enjoy a few days of land-based activities, such as the temples in Ubud (?) and some partying. Maybe its all accessible my transport? Im also completely new to surfing, so if you could recommend me any good place to stay for 4-5 days of surfschool and meeting new people Id be really grateful.
4. Gili.
I thought Id spend atleast 4-5 days on the Gili Islands, depending on when I feel done with them. Which of the islands do you think a guy like me would enjoy the most? Are they all easily accessible from each other? Any activities here youd recommend? There will also probably be a handful of dives here, so for a guy like me whos just been to Komodo, what sites would you recommend?
5. Rescue Diver-certificate.
At some point during this trip I thought Id take the RD certification, and possibly also Nitrox. If you were me, would you do it on Bali or Gili and do you have any operator youd recommend?
6. Other vital stuff.
Medicines that are useful, lessons youve learned, sites to visit, golden rules of Bali that you simply dont break, any experience you might have or learned the hard way would be really appreciated!
Thankful for all the advice I can get,
