Got here on Saturday after a marathon day and a half, up for 39 hours straight. It's so much easier to get anywhere in the Pacific for us left coasters.

Our flight from SFO left from gate 87 to Newark then on to Curacao.

A topside shot from Sol, you know the place. Awesome pizza.

Assorted cool looking fish and critters,

Lion fish, introduced species with no natural predator, there are tons and only a select few are allowed to kill them ( the stupid it burns )

I'll post some more later as the trip goes on.

Link for the photobucket album where all my pics will go, feel free to link one up in the tread if you like it, I'm not going to post all of them.

Water temp is about 82ish shorts and a rash guard is all I need here.:D

Somebody will ask, all underwater pics taken with my old trusty Canon Powershot A570is in Canons underwater housing using only the camera flash ( no strobes ).

Got another dive in about 20 min Cya later

great photos, enjoy your stay there and it sucks about the lionfish.. hopefully many will die while we are there in a few months... keeps us posted on what sites you dive and like.. thanks

Just got back from a dusk/night dive from right in front of Allwest apt, saw a nice octopus in about 10 feet of water on the way in and counted 51:( Lion fish on one dive.

Nice! I have same camera setup - I'll be happy if my pics are half as good when I'm there

there was a thread a few years back in the Canon corner about how to make it work pretty well. The gal that wrote it up suggested the CHDK hack ( google it ) aperture priority, 1/125 second exposure, underwater WB if using flash for macro, manual WB when doing wide angle or open shots. I've been using that setup for a while now and can't complain for how inexpensive this setup is.

I actually have the CDHK hack - though last time I used the camera the camera locked up on me and I had to turn the hack off. - not a situation I want to run into underwater!

And I guessing you meant Shutter priority since I can't set a shutter speed of 1/125 with Av - good tip though on using shutter priority though

Honestly my biggest problem seems to be getting the feel for the "half click" since I can't really feel it through the housing shutter release button

The rotary dial is set to TV then I use the bottom 4 combo for macro and the top one for flash on/off that's all I ever change.

Got two dives in this morning at Jeremy and Lagun, both nice sites and quite a bit better than the house reef in front of Allwest.

Me being a moron forgot to put fresh batteries in the camera and only got a few shots before it pooped out.

There's a turtle in there trying to take a nap.

IMG_1966.jpg

Ran across this guy just free swimming and he settled down to try and blend in, snapped this one just before he changed colors.

Wife unit is taking a nap after lunch and we'll explore a bit farther south east this afternoon.

Wife just wanted to go out front and we just got back in so some new ones,

Sorry this is turning out to be more of a pic post than a trip report if that's what you were looking for.

Didn't do any diving yesterday, went to the Aquarium ( hint if you come here save your cash ), booked a couple of dives with the Dive Bus folks for some insider info on diving that area of the island with it's rocky entries ( very nice folks ) and I did a few snorkels in the afternoon.

Went out today and did the Superior Producer this morning, that's a nice dive and I finally got a pic of myself ( after almost 200 dives ).

Took a few others today too, couple of stonefish and some more eels.

Forgot to put this one the other day, probably the best pic I've ever taken ( well at least my favorite.
