Not that rare but more than usual in front of the camera.

Any idea what this is? The DM said he had never seen it before. Not the best picture, from a gopro video. The little black thing is some type of tentacle. It kind of clinched up a little when the sand around it was brushed.

Looks like a buried ray
 
It was not a ray. Was maybe 5" in diameter and round, no tail.
 
Not really much to go on.
Yes I know it is hard to make out in the picture. Tried to brush the sand off of it but didn't want to touch it. The DM is local, very experienced and had never seen one and had no idea what it was.

Looks like a "sand anemone." When you brush the sand away the critter retracts.

Looks like a cassiopeia jellyfish, also known as a mangrove jellyfish. They like to rest on sandy bottoms.
