This weekend I did three dives. Nothing too strenuous or deep. On my third dive I started noticing a sharp pain above my left eye when I would decend. I never went below 40 feet on all three dives. Could this be a problem with my sinuses? This didn't happen on my first two dives, but was very noticable on my third dive. Any ideas?

Dear jhnsndn:

Sinus Pain

Pain above the eyes upon descent? It certainly sounds like a ”sinus squeeze” to me. I am sure that some of the clinicians will have something to add. This is a common problem for divers.

Any way to prevent it? I took some sinus pills and some aspirin when I got home and it went away in about two hours.
